This fragrance makes me feel like I have magical powers, maybe cuz when I first started using it -years ago- I lived on this mountainous island and had a habit of using a certain white powder and literally thought I had magical powers, but I digress. It seems to have been reformulated but is still very much like the original EDP, lasts a long time, one light spray on my arm at 11. There is a massive smell difference between Sanofi beaute - YSL Parfums- YSL Parfums Corps and the last years from 2003 when L’Oréal took over. I now use Rasasi Daarej Pour Homme, this has the same vibe of Opium because of its spices and vanilla besides the same sneeze after the opening. There's nothing like southern comfort, wearing a tuxedo, eating vanilla cupcakes and drinking a spicy-sweet iced liqueur.

Only reviews that feature the label "Verified Review" have been checked to ensure that the author actually used or purchased the product. A combination of tolu balsam, vanilla and star anise is a heavy hitter on its own, but when you least expect it, there is the currant that elevates the whole trio and gives it the fresh facet and makes the composition as unique as it is.

Although very pleasant, not by current standards, so this is NOT that typical winter no brainer, it demands some taste for this kind of stuff. Compared to the women’s version of Opium, OPH lacks any smokiness and even the spices are much softer.

With that bit out of the way, this fragrance is something that a sophisticated gentleman would have worn on a night out in the late 90s, or possibly even as a signature scent.I know there are no booze notes here, but I get a strong mulled wine accord front and center, thanks the combination of dark, sweet, juicy blackcurrant (think crème de cassis) and warm, spicy, powdery star anise. It’s pretty incredible, I mean this would easily be one of the most well formulated fragrances I’ve ever smelt. It’s a shame that it is difficult to obtain this since it is a decent fragrance in terms of smell and longevity. Top notes are Star Anise and Black Currant; middle notes are Sichuan Pepper and Galanga; base notes are Bourbon Vanilla, Tolu Balsam and Atlas Cedar. For me it has very good longevity and acceptable sillage , Also its more into classical perfume than the modern one so if you are not into classical perfumes than you need to try it first .
